Today we started working with spheros to measure the actual speed they roll down the hall. Being an introduction to the little robots, it was more testing their capabilities than taking data, but no one ever said science couldn't be fun. The students really enjoyed piloting the rolling robots all over the hall, twisting, turning, changing color, weaving in and out of standing feet, seeing how far they could go before they ran out of range (they made the entire length of the basement without a problem). It was a good time... and because of that, I was worried about getting some unwanted attention as students were active in the hallways, and we did catch the attention of the math department...but in a good way! Mr. Dedrich will have his Trigonometry classes join us for observation and calculations, so we are seeing some cross-curricular applications of the sphero.
Tomorrow, and the rest of the week should see more concentrated data collection. Next week, we will have a new adventure for our little bald friends, so stay tuned!
